The Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia is expanding and as such we have an immediate requirement for a proactive and professional mid-level Communications and Projects Advisor.

We offer flexible work arrangements therefore we are looking for someone to join our team who is able to work autonomously and independently, with the ability to manage their own time, assist in various SIFA projects and deliver a wide variety of professional and well-structured corporate communications.

Our industry is constantly evolving, so the successful candidate will need to possess a strong desire to immerse themselves across all sections of our industry and proactively seek to keep their knowledge of the industry and current issues, up to date.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Australian shooting industry including:
    - How the industry functions (importation, distribution & retail processes)
    - Political environment (parliamentary processes, political parties & policy)
    - Regulatory environment (commonwealth/state regulators, legislation & regulation)
  • Source, collate and catalogue relevant industry research for use in fact-based advocacy, corporate communications, and campaigning activities.
  • Research and identify current industry issues and trends to develop various corporate communications material that includes industry news items, media releases, social media content, briefing papers & promotional copy.
  • Assist in the development and deployment of SIFA media and communications strategies.
  • Identify new ways of successfully delivering our messaging and build engaged audiences using a wide variety of communications channels and techniques.
  • Develop and deploy media/communications/promotional campaigns and independently manage any issues that arise.
  • Manage, develop, and foster stakeholder relationships including SIFA members, shooting organisations, media organisations, journalists, politicians & government media teams.
  • Assist with media enquiries through the preparation and delivery of information supporting SIFA issues-based campaigning activities.
  • Provide advice on design and branding for various SIFA media, marketing, events, and corporate communications.
  • Develop and manage promotional communications and marketing material for tradeshows and other SIFA sponsored events.
  • Administer social media platforms (including advertising), websites, and other online outbound communication tools.
  • Provide assistance and support to the CEO and Policy & Research Manager with other public relations and marketing activities as required.
Key Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrable experience preparing media releases, news items, public statements, briefing notes and other corporate communications.
  • The ability to understand the regulatory complexities of the Australian shooting industry across all levels of government.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to confidently engage with politicians, parliamentary staff, journalists, and C-Level stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail coupled with a clear desire to strive for excellence.
  • The capability to consider political, observational, and analytical impact in public messaging.
  • An understanding of social media and online communication platforms and their use, features, and functions.
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage your own time to set goals and KPI’s.
Qualifications:
  • Qualifications in business or communications with a minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience.
